(1). I had an amusing experience last year.

去年，我曾有过一段有趣的经历

(2). After I had left a small village in the south of France, I drove on to the next town.

在我离开法国南部的一个小村庄以后，我继续驱车开往下一个城镇。

(3). On the way, a young man waved to me.

途中，一个年轻人向我招手。

(4). I stopped and he asked me for a lift.

我停下车，他请求搭车。

(5). As soon as he had got into the car, I said good morning to him in French and he replied in the same language

他一上了车，我就用法语向他道声早安，他也用法语同样回了我一句。

(6). Apart from a few words, I do not know any French at al l.

除了片言只语外，我根本不懂法语。

(7). Neither of us spoke during the journey.

在旅途中我们谁也没有说话。

(8). I had nearly reached the town, when the young man suddenly said, very slowly, ’Do you speak English?’

在快要到城镇时，这年轻人突然很慢地说:“你会说英语吗?”

(9). As I soon learnt, he was English himself!

那时我才明白，原来他也是英国人!
