(1). I arrived in London at last.

我终于到达了伦敦。

(2). The railway station was big, black and dark. I did not know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter.

车站很大但又黑又暗，我不认识去旅馆的路，就向一个搬运工打听。

(3). I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me

我说英语时不仅十分认真，而且非常清楚，但他听不懂我的话。

(4). I repeated my question several times and at last he understood.

我把问题重复了好几遍，他终于明白了。

(5). He answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. ’I am a foreigner,’ I said.

他回答我的话既快又不清楚。我说:“我是外国人。”

(6). Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him.

于是，他才慢慢地说，可我仍不懂。

(7). My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled.

我的老师从不象他那样说英语的!搬运工人和我相视而笑。

(8). Then he said something and I understood it. ’You’ll soon learn English!’ he said.

后来他讲了一些话我懂了。他说:“你会很快学会英语的!”

(9). I wonder. In England, each man speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I don’t understand them! Do they speak English?

我奇怪，在英国，每个人都说一种不同的语言，英国人彼此之间都懂得，可我听不懂他们说的话!他们是在讲英语吗
