(1). Last week at a dinner-party, the hostess asked me to sit next to Mrs. Rumbold.
在上星期的一次宴会上,女主人要我坐在Rumbold太太的旁边。
(2). Mrs. Rumbold was a large, unsmiling lady in a tight black dress.
Rumbold太太是一位板着面孔、穿着紧身黑衣裙的肥胖女人。
(3). She did not even look up when I took my seat beside her.
当我坐到她旁边时,她甚至连头也没有抬起来看一看。
(4). Her eyes were fixed on her plate and in a short time, she was busy eating. I tried to make conversation.
她的眼睛直盯着盘子。不久,她就全神贯注地吃起来了。我试着和她攀谈。
(5). ’ A new play is coming to" The Globe" soon,’ I said. ’Will you be seeing it?’

(7). Will you be staying in England?’ I asked. ’ No,’ she answered.
“您准备留在英国吗?”我又问。
(8). ’Will you be spending your holidays abroad this year?’ I asked.
“您今年要到国外去度假吗?”我问。
(9). In despair, I asked her whether she was enjoying her dinner.
在失望中,我问她对这次饭菜是否觉得满意。
(10). ’ Young man,’ she answered,’ if you ate more and talked less, we would both enjoy our dinner!’
她答道:“年轻人,如果你多吃点而少说点,那我们两个人都会吃得很满意。”
