(2). Sam Benton, the local butcher, had lost his wallet while taking his savings to the post office
当地的肉店老板Sam Benton在带着存款去邮局时,丢失了钱包。
(3). Sam was sure that the wallet must have been found by one of the villagers, but it was not returned to him.
Sam肯定钱准是让一个村民拾去了,但是没有人还给他。
(4). Three months passed, and then one morning, Sam found his wallet outside his front door.
三个月过去了,有一天早晨,Sam却在他的门外发现了他的钱包
(5). It had been wrapped up in newspaper and it contained half the money he had lost, together with a note which said: ’A thief, yes, ’but only 5o per cent a thief!’
它是用报纸包着的,内有他丢了的钱的一半,同时,还有一张小纸条,上面写着:“一个贼,不错,但只是个百分之五十的贼!”
(6). Two months later, some more money was sent to Sam with another note:’ Only 25 percent a thief now!’
两个月之后,又给Sam送回了一些钱连同另一张纸条,上面写着:“现在只是百分之二十五的一个贼!”
(7). In the end, all Sam’s money was paid back in this way. The last note said:’ I am 100 per cent honest now!’
最后,山姆所有的钱都是以这种方式还回来的。最后的一张小纸条上说:“现在我是个百分之一百的诚实人了!”
