(1). People will do anything to see a free show--even if it is a bad one.

能够看不花钱的演出--即使很不精彩，人们总是争先恐后。

(2). When the news got round that a variety show would be presented at our local cinema by the P. and U. Bird Seed Company, we all rushed to see it.

听说P和U鸟食公司将在本地电影院举办歌舞杂耍演出时，我们都赶着去观赏。

(3). We had to queue for hours to get in and there must have been several hundred people present just be-fore the show began.

我们排长队等了好几个钟头才进场，演出开始前已有好几百人到场了。

(4). Unfortunately, the show was one of the dullest we have ever seen.

不幸的是这次演出是我们看过的演出中最没有意思的。

(5). Those who failed to get in need not have felt disappointed as many of the artistes who should have appeared did not come.

因为许多该登台的艺术家都没有登台，所以没能进来的观众用不着遗憾。

(6). The only funny things we heard that evening came from the advertiser at the beginning of the programme.

那天晚上唯一逗人发笑的是节目开始前的一位广告员的讲话。

(7). He was obviously very nervous and for some minutes stood awkwardly before the microphone.

他显然十分紧张。局促不安地站在话筒前有好几分钟。

(8). As soon as he opened his mouth, everyone burst out laughing.

他一开口便引起了哄堂大笑。

(9). We all know what the poor man should have said, but what he actually said was: ’This is the Poo and Ee Seed Bird Company. Good ladies, evening and gentlemen!’

我们都知道那位可怜的人儿本来应该说的是什么，但他实际上说的是;“这是Poo和Ee食鸟公司，好女士们，晚上和先生们!”
